Letter from the Director

Letter from the Director

As I write this letter, bells are pealing as a flock of pigeons rise up into the cobalt-blue sky over the St. Francis Cathedral at the heart of Santa Fe. Following a 400-year tradition, a procession of the faithful winds its way out of the cathedral doors and down the narrow streets past the Plaza. Nearby, at the newly-opened, xeriscaped Railyard Park, the international art-destination Site Santa Fe is launching its leading-edge, Biennial contemporary art exhibition, attracting crowds and collectors from all over the world. Back at the Plaza itself, Native American artists display their breathtakingly beautiful handwork-skills passed down through their generations in clay and silver and stones.

This is Santa Fe, New Mexico – home of some of the oldest traditions in the country as well as some of the newest expressions of art, music, opera and dance in contemporary America. The New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts is a world within this world, where tradition mirrors technique. The 120-year old adobe walls of our school echo with the energy of almost three decades of deeply intentional bodywork. Never a massage school, per se, the Academy was founded on the premise that bodywork is an amalgam of healing arts –

work which can trace its roots back to the ancient practices of India, Tibet, China, and Japan, as well as to the European and American scientists of healing. Over these years the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts has continued to meld the ancient practices with the newest, innovative massage and bodywork techniques of the west, creating profoundly effective bodywork trainings.

Here at the Academy, the strength of our healing arts training is dependent upon a contemplative way of living, based upon living closely with the natural elements of the ancient, high-desert earth capped by an enormous sky. It is this limitless landscape which affects our teaching and our bodywork, and which invites the processes of change and healing to occur.

I invite you to begin the adventure of healing work here with us, within the heritage of The New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts and the heritage of this land.

Sincerely,

Genie Stevens
